Injured at Work? How the Caregivers Benevolent Fund ® Can Help

At Find a Caregiver, we know self-employed carers face unique challenges. One of the hardest can be getting injured at work and suddenly being unable to earn. Bills don't stop piling up just because you're off work!

That's why we offer our members access to the Caregivers Benevolent Fund ®, designed to provide short-term financial support. If you suffer a minor work-related injury and are off for up to four weeks, you'll receive 70% of your wages for the month, allowing you time to rest and recover.. Whether it's a broken limb, a cracked rib, or another accident at work, we're here to help you get back on your feet.

Examples of injuries that may be eligible include:

Broken bones from slips, trips, or falls in the workplace
Cuts or lacerations
Falls from a height
Injuries caused by traffic accidents while working

What's Not Covered

To avoid disappointment, it's important to be clear about what the fund does not cover:

Accidents that don't cause bodily injury
Back injuries (Carers are trained on what to do and what not to do to avoid back injuries)
Mental health conditions (If a carer feels she is not coping mentally she/he must please get hold of their GP for guidance.)
Liability from treatment, respite, or medical care services (beyond basic first aid)
Any physical, verbal, or written actions constituting sexual abuse, molestation, bullying, or harassment. (If a carer is in a placement, the warning signs should be there and should not be in that placement.)
Injuries caused deliberately or intentionally

How to Claim

Step 1 – Take Action Immediately

Seek Medical Attention – Even minor injuries should be assessed; keep all medical records.
Document the Incident – Record the time, date, location, and circumstances. Keep copies.
Collect Evidence – Photos, witness contacts, or anything else that supports your claim.
Proof of Work – Provide a copy of your contract to show the injury happened during work.
A letter from the doctor confirming your injury.

Step 2 – Submit Your Claim

Send an email to carersupport@findacaregiver.co.uk and a form will be sent to you to fill in, which you will send back to us, including an accident report and NHS medical report.

Step 3 – What Happens Next

Once your claim is assessed, you'll receive a decision within 10 working days. If approved, up to 70% of one month's salary will be paid to help you while you recover.

We encourage all self-employed carers to seek independent legal or medical advice about personal injury or compensation rights. Remember, in the UK, there is usually a three-year limit to make a claim from the date of your accident.
